Default Imam Anwar al-Awlaki: What do we make of his speech?

1. Please keep this respectful.
2. Please do not use any caps.
3. If you have a personal issue with someone, please PM them instead.
4. Please don't try to distract the thread, otherwise your comments will deleted.
5. Please be nice :)

This is what he said:

Quote:
Nidal Hassan is a hero. He is a man of conscience who could not bear living the contradiction of being a Muslim and serving in an army that is fighting against his own people. This is a contradiction that many Muslims brush aside and just pretend that it doesn’t exist. Any decent Muslim cannot live, understanding properly his duties towards his Creator and his fellow Muslims, and yet serve as a US soldier. The US is leading the war against terrorism which in reality is a war against Islam. Its army is directly invading two Muslim countries and indirectly occupying the rest through its stooges.

Nidal opened fire on soldiers who were on their way to be deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan. How can there be any dispute about the virtue of what he has done? In fact the only way a Muslim could Islamically justify serving as a soldier in the US army is if his intention is to follow the footsteps of men like Nidal.

The heroic act of brother Nidal also shows the dilemma of the Muslim American community. Increasingly they are being cornered into taking stances that would either make them betray Islam or betray their nation. Many amongst them are choosing the former. The Muslim organizations in America came out in a pitiful chorus condemning Nidal’s operation.

The fact that fighting against the US army is an Islamic duty today cannot be disputed. No scholar with a grain of Islamic knowledge can defy the clear cut proofs that Muslims today have the right -rather the duty- to fight against American tyranny. Nidal has killed soldiers who were about to be deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan in order to kill Muslims. The American Muslims who condemned his actions have committed treason against the Muslim Ummah and have fallen into hypocrisy.

Allah(swt) says: Give tidings to the hypocrites that there is for them a painful punishment –

Those who take disbelievers as allies instead of the believers. Do they seek with them honor [through power]? But indeed, honor belongs to Allah entirely. (al-Nisa 136-137)

The inconsistency of being a Muslim today and living in America and the West in general reveals the wisdom behind the opinions that call for migration from the West. It is becoming more and more difficult to hold on to Islam in an environment that is becoming more hostile towards Muslims.

May Allah grant our brother Nidal patience, perseverance and steadfastness and we ask Allah to accept from him his great heroic act. Ameen

Does anyone have a copy of what he had posted on his blog? Seems his wordpress was hacked or deleted.

Also, this thread is in the Islamic Issues section which means all your comments can and will be read by plenty of people who dont need to be signed into the forum to read it. Also all your comments can be publicly searched for and found on google)
So make sure you don't say something that will get you in unnecessary trouble.

Just edited my post with what he said. His site was problem taken down by the feds and the DNS repointed elsewhere. Patriot Act covers that.

For me the question is not whether what he said is right or wrong. For me the question is: With him having so much popularity around the country, and the West in general, how do we explain his comments to young people who may be easily influenced by what he has said?

Oh my god its so much work......good and bad.
Okay i used up all my energy in those last posts, inshAllah illeither copy and pastt when nessecary..but look like i said he justifies his points, he is not going on craziness for jihad but he is attributing it to quran (danger? maybe maybe not) I just think these issues are useless honestly. We need to concentrate on the bigger picuture here using these ayat (helping iraq palestine kashmir afghan etc0 and yes as americans too.

The real thread that must be made and focused on is....Before we concentrate on the injustices done by the non muslims we need to see the injustices done by muslims against muslims.
I urge a meaningful discussion of brotherhood and sisterhood to better ourselves and this ummah ameen.

We can not dwell into this before we realize the former. That is our main problem and if we never see that we will be going in circles. Anyone agree? Disagree?

I only say that may Allah open our minds, may we see and hear only the truth and speak only the truth from our lord.
ugh im going to bed nighty night

In the 90's we had many of our youth slipping away to overseas to save the world. Many right here in Houston, TX. In the end they couldn't even save themselves. I hardly know of a single one who didn't come back damaged and remorseful over their choices in life.

It all started with firebrand clerics and preachers who brainwashed us. They didn't immediately start preaching violence. It started with the typical pamphlets: "al-`Aqidat al-Sahihah", "Al-Lahyah li ma dha?", etc. Then there were Halaqat. Then there were more private Halaqat for a select few. Then there were plane tickets.

This is why I feel so strongly that the second (are italics ok?) anyone of significant influence over the Muslim youth calls them towards the same mistakes that were made in the 90's, they should be immediately shelved out of Sadd al-Dhari`ah.

This isn't a scholar holding a Shadh opinion about marriage and divorce. This is a matter of someone who has an emotional and spiritual hold on the youth potentially driving them towards life in prison or a needless death.

I am not speaking from a void. I have close friends serving long term prison sentences right now, while others barely averted it, while others will probably be under investigation for the rest of their natural lives.

May Allah protect us. Amin.

Again, let's not digress from the point. My opinion is that if an influential Islamic preacher rallies our youth in America towards illegal activity, even implicitly, then they should be censured for it without apology. This can not be tolerated. We've witnessed the effects right here in Houston with our youth being jailed, deported and worse due to this type of thing.

I say if they are from Houston, TX then they'd better get back home and pray no one noticed they were gone.

It is Haram to fight against a country that has provided you with security.

There is not an open declaration of Jihad ad infinitum against the disbelievers. Let's not get our Islamic knowledge from Fox News. Let us also not forget the story of Abu Baseer to whom the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) said: "Woe to his mother! He could have started a war if he had any followers!" (ويل أمه مسعر حرب لو كان له أحد ).

In spite of the Treaty of Hudaybiyyah, Abu Baseer took it upon himself to attack the Quraysh for the sake of Islam. The Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) rejected his "Jihad" and sent him back.
